Capitol Hill Children's Chess Club (for Grades 2-6) 2023-2024

For all neighborhood students in grades 2 - 6 interested in learning and playing chess All levels welcome! Students are divided into groups by ability. Absolute beginners are welcome, as are tournament players and everyone in between. One Semester: $120 Full Year (both Fall & Spring semesters): $220 [$20 Discount] (Registration includes one club T-shirt per year and snacks)

Players are grouped by ability, not age. We teach the rules to beginners and strategy to experienced players. Chess teaches responsibility, discipline, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Chess players learn how to make the most of their opportunities and how to turn a bad situation to their advantage. They learn not to make excuses for their setbacks, and to win and lose graciously. CH3C meets nearly every Wednesday at 700 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, Washington, DC 20003. Students are expected to attend each week, if possible, as lessons for each group build from the previous lessons. Students should arrive by 3:45pm and plan to stay at chess club until at least 5:00pm (CH3C runs from 3:30-5:30pm ET). Only students in grades 2 - 6 may join CH3C. We welcome parent volunteers to help with maintaining decorum, dismissal, and distributing snacks; but only our instructor teaches chess.

Chess Club is offered by the nonprofit U.S. Chess Center (https://chessctr.org), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, with the support of Barracks Row Main Street. All instructors are certified chess coaches.

For more information, contact the U.S. Chess Center at admin@chessctr.org | 202-857-4922.
