Barracks Row Main Street works to leverage public and private funds to improve the condition of the historic buildings in the area. Over the past five years alone the exteriors of over fifty buildings were updated though our façade improvement program.
BRMS worked with the DC Department of Transportation to create a comprehensive plan for the urban streetscape. Including additional parking, public transportation analysis, waste water run-off, urban forestry, and lighting, the plan developed a pedestrian-friendly and ecologically smart urban corridor on historic Capitol Hill. DDOT completed the $8.5 million streetscape project in December of 2003.
In the spring of 2003, Ready Willing & Working began clean and safe services to commercial areas of Capitol Hill, including Barracks Row, through the Capitol Hill BID. Thanks to strong police relations, involved citizens and merchants, and the Capitol Hill Ambassadors, ours is one of the safest in neighborhoods in Washington.
Barracks Row Main Street is a designated DC Main Streets commercial district. Barracks Row Main Street is funded in part by the Department of Small and Local Business Development.
